Cambodian Islands guide

Get to the Cambodian Islands before it’s too late!

One of the last, great bastions of natural beauty and relaxation are the speckled islands off the coast of Cambodia. Located across the Gulf of Thailand, these islands are just what you’d expect of tropical paradise locations but with one very important twist…

These islands are, as of yet, still untouched by modern amenities such as paved roads, ATM machines or round the clock electricity. Don’t wait, too long, though because the word is out and if you want to enjoy these locations while they’re still raw and untouched then you need to travel quickly before the resorts move in.

The Island of Koh Rong

About two and a half hours from the mainland is one of the greatest of these islands. The entire island is only 78 square kilometers (48.4 miles) in size but it contains 43 kilometers (26.7 miles) of beaches that are perfect for all the types of things that you’d want to do there such as scuba, swimming, snorkeling and jungle trekking and hiking.

Even though still remote, Koh Rong is considered the most developed of the islands with more than a dozen bungalow style guesthouses and some great local restaurants that are always pleased to serve you a cold brew and the freshest seafood you may ever get.

The Island of Koh Rong Samloen

Though smaller and a little less “hectic” (compared to Koh Rong) this baby sister of an Island is still a place that is very worth a visit if you can manage the chance. The beaches are smaller and dot the coast but they are quiet and nearly deserted. There is an only island surf shop that operates a boat service between Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloen. Recently, the surf shop has opened a “hotel” type service of wooden bungalows situated on the edge of the jungle.

As the world ages and develops, it also shrinks. There are so few places like these Cambodian Islands left on Earth-untouched paradises that have not been taken advantage of yet by the large tourism industry. Just more hidden gems that the wonders of Cambodia can offer the would be traveler or transplant!

Hopefully I have more time and can write about the other Cambodian islands that are interesting to go too!
